Will be your teenager sexting!? Иut just how much have you figured out about sexting?

You’ve probably heard this question posed by an excited news anchor, teasing the second hour’s big storyю Would you understand if your son or daughter had been sexting? just How would you handle that situation?

This we hear from a Project Specialist in NCMEC’s Exploited Children Division to get her take on sexting and how parents/guardians can help prevent it and respond to it week.

Sex + Texting =(verb that is sexting, Sex +Text = Sext (noun).

Sexting most frequently relates to the sending or posting of nude or partially nude photos of yourself to a different individual, frequently via mobile phone or software.

Sexting is not a behavior unique to teenagers. Quite the contrary, well-known politicians and Hollywood movie stars are also caught in sexting scandals, but only at NCMEC, we deal especially with online exploitation concerning kiddies, so when a teen’s (read: minor) intimate image goes online, we may get a CyberTipline report. Why do individuals sext?

People sext for many different reasons. They might be:

  • Checking out their sexuality by sharing having a boyfriend/girlfriend
  • Attempting to be funny
  • Attempting to wow a crush whom may or might not have expected for the photo.

Many people deliver sexts willingly. Often, individuals may deliver a sext after being bullied or coerced into giving them. Various other instances, sexually explicit pictures are captured without permission if you take screen shots, hacking into a cam, or digitally changing pictures.

Many individuals, specially teenagers whom, whenever in new/unfamiliar circumstances, have a tendency to work impulsively and emotionally without thinking through longer-term results, is almost certainly not alert to the risks or consequences of sexting.
